Sara Magner
Registered Clinical Counsellor
RCC, M.Ed.
Sara Magner is a child and family counsellor, serving as a guide, mentor, and support for families facing struggles within their family system. This may be anything ranging from: struggles parenting behavioral children (ages 5-17), or managing anxiety, depression, or other trauma. She utilizes a style that differs from traditional approaches to facilitate lasting and internal changes in the youth and the family system. She uses a combined approach of Reality Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help clients. With combined experience in residential treatment facilities, behavioral analysis, trauma work, and clinical counseling, she is able to reach even the most challenging at-risk youth and struggling families.
Sara has a double-major in Psychology and Family Child Sciences from Florida State University and a Masters of Education in Counseling (M.Ed.) from Sul Ross State University. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trauma-focused therapy and uses this modality when it fits the need for the client. She has been helping families with crisis intervention since 2012. She has helped families transition into and out of and while attending residential treatment facilities, adjust to hard life situations in the home (e.g., new school, job, social group), assisted youth with drug/alcohol addiction, anxiety, depression, helped oppositional youth and compliance in the home, self-esteem issues, communication difficulties, and more. There is no limit to how counselling can help your family.
On a more personable note: Sara is originally from Miami, Florida, has lived in a variety of states in the United States and is a new comer to the Okanagan Valley (2021). She enjoys time with her family, being outdoors (hiking, kayaking, camping), and opportunities to practice self-care.

“Sara is an outstanding Counselor/Coach. I saw this firsthand for over a year as she worked with my niece and our family. She has a depth of understanding and exceptional ability to help people get to their foundation issues to create a positive healing process; and a special gift for working with people in their teen years. “We are so incredibly grateful for the guidance, patience and professionalism that Sara provided to our daughter and our family in the darkest hour of need. Our daughter had deep emotional struggles that tore our family apart for more than three years. We went through several therapists, behavioral hospitals, psychiatrists without any success. Sara was able to reach our daughter and help her identify her issues and give her the tools to overcome them. She was always attentive and responsive to not just our daughter’s needs, but to ours as well. Always there to give us strength and also comfort. Thanks to Sara, we got our daughter back!”
