Shiatsu

Shiatsu Therapy is a non-invasive physical therapy that aims to support, balance and harmonize the clients system, improve circulation of blood and lymph flow and enhance flexibility. Due to the effect on the autonomic nervous system shiatsu treatments help to relieve stress and pain, as well as improve muscle, organ and joint function. Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork in which the practitioner uses applied pressure and release techniques. Treatments are traditionally provided on a futon on the floor. The client is fully clothed, and carefully measured pressure is applied along the meridian lines of the body with hands, thumbs or elbows; supported by gentle stretches. Shiatsu massage helps remove blockages by realigning meridian points, which balances the qi to ease the body and mind. Through balancing vital energy, healing occurs in the body.

The nervous and immune systems are brought to homeostasis through the stimulation of the meridians, as well as restoring the circulatory system, improving blood flow throughout the body. Like Acupuncture, Shiatsu is based on the holistic system of traditional Oriental medicine, where illness is thought to result from imbalances in the natural flow of energy, or qi throughout the body. The theory behind Shiatsu is that our bodies are made up of energy and when this energy gets blocked it can cause pain, dis’ease’ and suffering. The body has twelve meridians, named according to its corresponding organ: lung, large intestine, stomach, spleen, heart, small intestine, bladder, kidney, heart governor, triple heater, gall bladder and liver. The functions of these organs have a broader definition in Eastern medicine which deepens our understanding of these energetic pathways in the body, recognizing that most diseases arise from core blockage along these meridians.

Reflexology

Our organs have corresponding reflex points on other parts of the body, some of the sensitive points being those on the feet. When a reflex point is stimulated, it works to balance and normalize not just the corresponding organ itself but also all functioning relationships of that organ. Although this session is primarily working the feet, the effects are experienced throughout the whole body.

Therapeutic Fire Cupping

Suction pulls toxins, pathogenic factors, blood poison, dead lymph and cellular debris from deep within the tissue to the surface. The cupping method functions to stimulate and promote the free flow of Qi (energy) and blood in the meridians (energy pathways). This creates a kind of local congestion that can eliminate blood stagnation that may be causing pain from a deeper layer in the tissues.

Trauma Sensitive Yoga

Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga – TCTSY

Trauma-Sensitive Yoga is a method of yoga developed, researched and found to be of great healing and benefit to survivors of complex trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Yoga classes that are trauma sensitive are slow and gentle, grounded in choice with a rhythm of engaging, integrating, and resting. You may notice that cues are offered invitationally and that you will be offered choices within and between forms.   Trauma-Sensitive yoga offers an opportunity for you to be in complete control of your body in the present moment. You are welcome to make choices and notice sensations in your body.  Group sessions (6 week series) or one on one sessions. There is a brief introductory meeting required either by video chat, phone or text before sessions begin.

Come as you are.

TCTSY uses Hatha Yoga forms as a way to access the body, functioning as a bottom-up approach to treating trauma. The emphasis is not on the external expression or appearance (i.e. doing it “right”), or receiving the approval of an external authority. Rather the focus is on the internal experience of the participant. With this approach, the power resides within the individual, not the TCTSY facilitator (TCTSY-F).  No physical assists are provided during a TCTSY session, there are no required physical props, and  no prior yoga experience is necessary. Find out more about TCTSY here.

Sacha is officially certified through the Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga 300-hour program based on protocol developed, studied, and empirically validated by the Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute of Brookline, Massachusetts.

Free Consultation: 15-30-minute consultation to assess your needs is free of charge & required for the Trauma sensitive yoga sessions.

Individual Trauma Sensitive Yoga Sessions: (TCTSY)
20 minute introductory meeting (by phone or video chat) required (free of charge)
30 minute sessions $40
60 minute sessions $75
A minimum of 6-8 sessions is recommended.

Yoga Therapy

Are you experiencing some symptoms or a health condition that needs some relief?

Yoga Therapy can help with chronic pain, neurological issues, musculoskeletal injuries, digestive issues, support for illnesses, respiratory disorders, skin disorders, burn-out, healthy aging and overall well-being.

Yoga therapy as the name implies, uses yoga techniques—postures, breathing exercises, and meditations to assist people towards a whole-person approach to healing. Depending on your needs, I will suggest specific breathing exercises, postures, and relaxation techniques.

A yoga therapy session starts with an initial assessment to figure out what your needs are. We’ll identify health problems, assess your lifestyle and physical abilities, and create a treatment plan just for you based on your own goals. When the treatment plan is established, the sessions can be scheduled based on frequency.

How is Yoga Therapy different from attending a Yoga class?

  • Public yoga classes can certainly ease everyday aches, pains, and mood complaints. Yoga therapy, however, goes deeper since it is tailored specifically to the client. In Yoga Therapy, individuals can address physical, mental, and emotional concerns in a one on one setting.
  • A client usually seeks out a yoga therapist not for yoga instruction, but to get relief from some symptoms or a health condition that is troubling them. Instead of teaching the techniques of yoga, the focus of Yoga Therapy is on how the yoga techniques can improve the client’s physical health and overall wellbeing.
  • A yoga therapist is a yoga teacher who has completed additional training (at least 2 years)

As a Yoga Therapist, Sacha is certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists after graduating from The Yoga Therapy Institute with an 800-hour Yoga Therapy diploma.

Yoga Therapy Sessions:
Initial sessions (2) are 90 minutes (intake and assessment)
Follow-up sessions are 75 / 90 minutes – $110 per session
A minimum of 5 sessions is recommended (including intake & assessment)
