Bodywork

Ayurvedic Massage

Ayurvedic Massage is an ancient healing massage system developed in India. Soothing therapeutic oils are applied and massaged into the skin, permeating the dermis and having a healing effect throughout the body. It is a pleasurable, deeply relaxing body massage. Strokes vary from deep to superficial and follow the flow of nerve pathways and energy channels. Marma’s, vital points similar to acupressure points, are manipulated in order to revitalize the entire body. Opening and cleansing energetic pathways allows currents to flow freely throughout the system, engendering vitality. It is considered a sublime art in the Ayurvedic healing system and has been an integral part of healing in India for thousands of years. The bodywork techniques have a balancing effect on the body and mind.

Ayurvedic massage promotes overall health, alleviates stress and fatigue, strengthens the nervous system, nourishes the bodily tissues, increases longevity, and enhances the process of purification and regeneration. It also focuses on releasing sub-conscious areas of tension and emotions stored in the bodies memory. The therapist navigates aches, pains, and tissue tension to facilitate physical and emotional release and relief. The Ayurvedic word for oil is sneha; a term also synonymous with love, kindness and tenderness. Loving kindness and compassion are central to the practitioner’s disposition.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage melts away tension, eases muscle stiffness and increases circulation. Each hot stone massage promotes deep muscle relaxation through the placement of smooth, water-heated stones on key points of the body which help to expand the blood vessels, which encourages blood flow, and the circulation of fluids throughout the body. The hot stones are used as an extension of the hands with gentle pressure to relax the body’s muscles and soft tissues, alleviate pain, and help rid the body of toxins. The therapeutic massage techniques and placement of hot stones upon the body reduce stress and provide a warm, effective and deeply relaxing healing experience that can relieve chronic pain, reduce stress and increase metabolism. The benefits of hot stone massage include both medicinal and subtle energy benefits. The stones can be placed over organs, chakras and stiff, painful muscles to alleviate pain and encourage healing. Many have experienced a sense of enlightenment, inner peace and renewed spirituality after a hot stone massage. Hot stone massage is an age old healing modality dating back to the ancient Egyptians.

*It is best to speak with your Doctor if you are pregnant or have high blood pressure before booking a Hot Stone Massage.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu Therapy is a non-invasive physical therapy that aims to support, balance and harmonize the clients system, improve circulation of blood and lymph flow and enhance flexibility. Due to the effect on the autonomic nervous system shiatsu treatments help to relieve stress and pain, as well as improve muscle, organ and joint function.

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork in which the practitioner uses applied pressure and release techniques. Treatments are traditionally provided on a futon on the floor. The client is fully clothed, and carefully measured pressure is applied along the meridian lines of the body with hands, thumbs or elbows; supported by gentle stretches.

Shiatsu massage helps remove blockages by realigning meridian points, which balances the qi to ease the body and mind. Through balancing vital energy, healing occurs in the body. The nervous and immune systems are brought to homeostasis through the stimulation of the meridians, as well as restoring the circulatory system, improving blood flow throughout the body.

Like Acupuncture, Shiatsu is based on the holistic system of traditional Oriental medicine, where illness is thought to result from imbalances in the natural flow of energy, or qi throughout the body. The theory behind Shiatsu is that our bodies are made up of energy and when this energy gets blocked it can cause pain, dis’ease’ and suffering. The body has twelve meridians, named according to its corresponding organ: lung, large intestine, stomach, spleen, heart, small intestine, bladder, kidney, heart governor, triple heater, gall bladder and liver. The functions of these organs have a broader definition in Eastern medicine which deepens our understanding of these energetic pathways in the body, recognizing that most diseases arise from core blockage along these meridians.

The combination of Acutonics Sound and Energy Healing with Shiatsu is an incredible way to achieve deep blissful relaxation, promoting the body’s natural well-being. Blaire also offers Table Shiatsu, practiced on a massage table rather than on a futon on the floor.

Thai Massage

Thai Massage (also known as Traditional Thai Massage, Thai Yoga Massage or Nuad Boran) is an ancient healing massage system developed in Thailand. It combines broad and targeted acupressure techniques with assisted yoga stretching and passive movements. The massage focuses on the manipulation of energy lines called Sen. Opening and cleansing these energetic pathways allows currents to flow freely throughout the system and vitalize the body. It was developed by incorporating Ayurveda, Yoga, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Buddhist healing techniques and Thai Shamanism into one system. In this eclectic blend of bodywork, you’ll find the benefits of massage, yoga and acupressure synchronously woven into one. It is a holistic healing art that promotes physical and mental well-being.

Thai Massage is practiced on a padded mat on the floor. The recipient remains clothed during a treatment. There is constant body contact between the practitioner and client while the body is massaged, compressed, stretched and moved to relieve tension systemically. The practitioner uses thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows and body leverage in a dance of bodywork, facilitating therapeutic manipulations of physical tissues and structure. It is a unique and enjoyable form of bodywork that has been developed with deep body awareness.

Thai massage is great for relieving stress and tension, promoting joint health, relieving tight muscles and tendons, enhancing flexibility, toning the internal organs, and balancing energy. Thai Massage Therapy is beneficial in the treatment of pain and dysfunction, helping to mobilize soft tissue to address chronic pain and disability. Thai Massage can also help lengthen muscles prone to shortening due to physical stresses, and increase the range of motion in the back, neck, shoulders, legs, hips and throughout. The overall effect is one of deep relaxation, rejuvenation and a greater sense of ease in body and mind.

Yoga Therapy

Yoga Therapy utilizes the practices and teachings of Yoga to facilitate healing and self-empowerment. Yoga Therapists aide in addressing any number of concerns, using a holistic model. This can include physical, mental, emotional or spiritual issues. In accordance with one’s needs and interests, specific personal care techniques are taught and prescribed. These include the adaptation and application of yoga postures, physical exercises, breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, meditation, and contemplation. This is done to help individuals manage their conditions and alleviate symptoms, whilst empowering them to find greater health and well-being.
