Bodywork

Acupressure + Reflexology

Acupressure massage clears the energy pathways of the body (meridians) using varying amounts of pressure on specific points. It helps to break up and disperse any knots and inflammation as well as target specific trigger points helping to facilitate relaxation, release tension and promote healing throughout the body. This can include an Auriculotherapy Treatment, if desired.

Auriculotherapy

Working on the same principles as acupuncture auriculotherapy uses needle-less stimulation of the external ear for alleviating pain, and dysfunction as well as align the energies of the body. Auriculotherapy can also be used in helping to assess people’s underlying health problems just by analyzing the acupuncture points on the ears.

Ayurvedic Massage

Ayurvedic Massage is a brilliant healing art and an intricately crafted system of massage therapy. It is a form of oil massage that uses gliding movements along lines of tension and energetic distribution, as well as the treatment of pressure points, to restore health and wellness. Soothing therapeutic oils are applied and massaged onto the body, permeating the skin and having a healing effect throughout all of the bodies systems. It is a pleasurable and deeply relaxing full body massage. Strokes vary from deep to superficial and follow the flow of nerve pathways and energy channels. The massage caters to the recipients specific needs, providing deep tissue work if appropriate or taking on a gentler approach if required, addressing acute or general concerns, and always intuitively attuning the best suited approach for the person undergoing treatment. Marma, vital acupressure points, are also stimulated in order to revitalize the entire body. This facilitates an opening and cleansing of the energetic pathways, allowing currents to flow freely throughout the system, engendering vitality. The bodywork techniques have a balancing effect on the body and mind.

Ayurvedic massage promotes overall health, alleviates stress and fatigue, strengthens the nervous system, nourishes the bodily tissues, increases longevity, and enhances the process of purification and regeneration. It also focuses on releasing subconscious areas of tension and emotions stored in the bodies memory. The therapist navigates aches, pains and tissue tension to facilitate physical and emotional release and relief. The Ayurvedic word for oil is sneha: a term also synonymous with love, kindness and tenderness. Loving kindness and compassion are central to the practitioner’s disposition.

Ayurvedic Massage comes out of the tradition of Ayurvedic Medicine. Ayurveda is one of the great ancient healing arts of the world, a medical tradition that has been practiced and refined for over five thousand years. Ayurveda is a deeply holistic health care system, of which massage is an integral component. The word Ayurveda is a sanskrit combination of the words Ayur meaning life and Veda meaning knowledge. What they realized in ancient India is as true as ever today, that massage is an essential element to living a healthy and fulfilling life. Massage is considered a sublime art in the Ayurvedic healing system and has been an important part of healing in India for thousands of years.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or “knots”.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu Therapy is a non-invasive physical therapy that aims to support, balance and harmonize the clients system, improve circulation of blood and lymph flow and enhance flexibility. Due to the effect on the autonomic nervous system shiatsu treatments help to relieve stress and pain, as well as improve muscle, organ and joint function.

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork in which the practitioner uses applied pressure and release techniques. Treatments are traditionally provided on a futon on the floor. The client is fully clothed, and carefully measured pressure is applied along the meridian lines of the body with hands, thumbs or elbows; supported by gentle stretches.

Shiatsu massage helps remove blockages by realigning meridian points, which balances the qi to ease the body and mind. Through balancing vital energy, healing occurs in the body. The nervous and immune systems are brought to homeostasis through the stimulation of the meridians, as well as restoring the circulatory system, improving blood flow throughout the body.

Like Acupuncture, Shiatsu is based on the holistic system of traditional Oriental medicine, where illness is thought to result from imbalances in the natural flow of energy, or qi throughout the body. The theory behind Shiatsu is that our bodies are made up of energy and when this energy gets blocked it can cause pain, dis’ease’ and suffering. The body has twelve meridians, named according to its corresponding organ: lung, large intestine, stomach, spleen, heart, small intestine, bladder, kidney, heart governor, triple heater, gall bladder and liver. The functions of these organs have a broader definition in Eastern medicine which deepens our understanding of these energetic pathways in the body, recognizing that most diseases arise from core blockage along these meridians.

Thai Massage

Thai Massage uses assisted passive-stretching and dry acupressure techniques along the lines tension and energy distribution in the body. It employs dynamic bodywork techniques to alleviate discomfort, pain and stress, whilst increasing flexibility and enhancing overall health. Thai Massage (also known as Traditional Thai Massage, Thai Yoga Massage or Nuad Boran) is an ancient healing massage system developed in Thailand. It combines broad and targeted acupressure techniques with assisted yoga stretching and facilitated passive movements. The massage focuses on the treatment of energy lines called Sen (similar to the meridian system treated through acupuncture). Opening and cleansing these energetic pathways allows currents to flow freely throughout the bodies systems and vitalize the entire body. It was developed by incorporating Ayurveda, Yoga, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Buddhist healing techniques and Thai Shamanism into one system. In this eclectic blend of bodywork you’ll find the benefits of massage, yoga and acupressure synchronously woven into one. It is a holistic healing art that promotes physical and mental well-being overall, and is excellent for treating issues of limited mobility or flexibility, as well as painful conditions of the muscles, connective tissues and nerves.

Thai Massage is practiced on a padded mat on the floor. The recipient remains clothed during the treatment. There is constant body contact between the practitioner and client while the body is massaged, compressed, stretched and moved to systematically relieve tension. The practitioner uses thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows and body leverage in a dance of bodywork, facilitating therapeutic manipulations of physical tissues and structure of the body. It is a unique and enjoyable form of bodywork that is practiced with keen body awareness.

Thai massage is great for relieving stress and tension, promoting joint health, relieving tight muscles and tendons, enhancing flexibility, toning the internal organs, and balancing energy. Thai Massage Therapy is beneficial in the treatment of pain and dysfunction, helping to mobilize soft tissue to address chronic pain and/or disability. Thai Massage can also help lengthen muscles prone to shortening due to physical stresses, and increases the range of motion in the back, neck, shoulders, legs, hips and throughout. The overall effect is one of deep relaxation, rejuvenation and a greater sense of ease and agility in body and mind.

“Many times Christopher has been a life saver for me. I suffer from chronic neck and shoulder pain, and his amazing Thai massages have made a tremendous difference. He is also compassionate and caring, and his rates are really reasonable. I wholeheartedly recommend him as a body-work practitioner.”
–Venus Soberanes

“I have gone to see Christopher for Thai Massage; it was amazing. I was having back and kidney pain and he helped me work through the pain and I felt much better. He also gave me advice on what to do next for my own self-care. I have referred people with pain to Christopher with similar results.”

Yoga Therapy

Yoga Therapy is essentially the therapeutic design of yoga practices to treat a wide variety of conditions, promoting health and well being through an individualized yoga protocol. Yoga Therapy utilizes the practices and teachings of Yoga to facilitate healing and self-empowerment. Yoga Therapists aide in addressing any number of concerns, using a holistic model. This can include physical, mental, emotional or spiritual issues. In accordance with one’s needs and interests, specific personal care techniques are taught and prescribed. These include the adaptation and application of yoga postures & physical exercises, breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, as well as meditation, mindfulness & contemplation. This is done to help individuals manage their conditions and alleviate symptoms, whilst empowering them to find greater health and well-being as resourced from within.

Yoga Therapy provides a safe space in which to voice your concerns to the therapist. The therapist then works with you to find yoga techniques to work through whatever is indicated as a therapeutic focus. There is also a model of yogic diagnosis that takes into consideration your personal energetic constitution, and whatever may be of benefit in helping you find balance.
